One of the biggest mistakes parents make is waiting.
Waiting until high school.
Waiting until varsity.
Waiting until their athlete “gets serious.”
The truth?
Athletic development starts long before that.
Just ask Leila Ramos.
Building the Foundation Early
Leila is a 7th grader who plays softball for the Yakima Short Hops and volleyball for Team Yakima.
She originally came to YSP through an opportunity offered by her volleyball club.
Like many young athletes, she wasn’t sure what to expect.
“I wanted to work out more, but I didn’t realize how fun it could be.”
That’s one of the biggest goals we have with middle school athletes:
Help them enjoy the process.
Because athletes who enjoy training are athletes who stay consistent.
The Results Show Up Quickly
In just six months, Leila has seen major improvements in:
- Strength
- Speed
- Confidence
And the people around her have noticed too.
“My coaches and other parents have mentioned the difference they see compared to where I was last year.”
Those changes don’t just stay in the gym.
They show up on the field.
“Training at YSP has given me the confidence to hit the ball harder and run faster on the bases.”
More Than Athletic Development
One of the things that makes sports special is the relationships athletes build.
Training is no different.
“I’ve made new friends that I wouldn’t have met otherwise.”
At YSP, we want young athletes to develop in an environment where they feel supported, challenged, and excited to show up.
Why This Matters
The middle school years are some of the most important years in athletic development.
This is when athletes:
- Build movement skills
- Develop confidence
- Learn consistency
- Create healthy habits
The athletes who build that foundation early often have the easiest transition into high school athletics.
