When the weather gets cold and the lights turn off on the fall season, most athletes take a break.
The best ones don’t.
Winter is the time where the real progress happens — when athletes can slow down, focus on their weaknesses, and build the strength, speed, and confidence that separates them next season.
At Yakima Sports Performance, this is our favorite time of year to coach.
There are no games. No weekend tournaments. No distractions.
Just focused work.
The Foundation Is Built Now
Every athlete wants to get faster, stronger, and more explosive — but those qualities aren’t built in-season. They’re built right now, in the weight room.
Winter training is where athletes:
✅ Fix bad movement patterns
✅ Build real strength and coordination
✅ Improve speed and acceleration mechanics
✅ Reduce the risk of injury before spring
We tell our athletes all the time — you don’t rise to the level of the season; you fall to the level of your preparation.
Winter is that preparation.
Confidence Comes From the Work
There’s something powerful about watching an athlete transform from unsure to unshakable.
That doesn’t happen overnight. It comes from consistent effort, from showing up day after day, and from learning how to push past what’s comfortable.
The athletes who train through the winter show up in the spring with a different kind of confidence — not arrogance, but certainty. They know they’ve earned it.

The Choice
Winter separates the ones who say they want it from the ones who prove it.
If your athlete is serious about becoming faster, stronger, and more confident — this is where it starts.
