More Than a Gym: How Tia Found Her Third Home

Walking into a new gym for the first time can be intimidating.

New coaches.
New athletes.
New expectations.

Tia remembers exactly what that felt like.

After changing club softball teams, she needed somewhere to continue training. Her dad had heard about a new gym called Yakima Sports Performance, so they decided to give it a try.

She wasn’t sure what to expect.

But after one visit, she knew.

“I immediately knew YSP was a place I wanted to be.”

That was four years ago.

The Goal Was Simple

Like most athletes, Tia originally wanted to get:

  • Stronger
  • Faster
  • More athletic

She had already discovered she loved being in the weight room, and YSP gave her a place to continue growing.

Over the next four years, the results spoke for themselves.

Her trap bar deadlift increased from 235 pounds to 400 pounds.

She became significantly faster.

She developed more confidence in her abilities.

But perhaps the biggest transformation happened mentally.

“I was a very reserved athlete coming into YSP, but since then I’ve been able to start trusting my training.”

That trust became one of her biggest competitive advantages.

The Work Started Showing

As the years went on, Tia’s development became impossible to ignore.

She grew into one of the top hitters in the Valley, finishing her senior season as one of the area’s home run leaders.

Now she’ll continue her softball career at Mt. Hood Community College.

Those accomplishments weren’t built overnight.

They were built through years of consistency.

Through hundreds of workouts.

Through showing up even on days she didn’t feel like it.

More Than Speed and Strength

Ask Tia what her favorite part of YSP is, and she won’t mention deadlifts or sprint times.

She’ll tell you about the people.

“It didn’t matter if I had a bad day at school. Everyone was always happy to see me.”

That’s what made the difference.

The friendships.

The coaches.

The teammates.

The environment.

Eventually, YSP became something much bigger than a training facility.

“This gym has become my third home (only behind the softball field haha).”

As coaches, there isn’t a much bigger compliment than that.

Lessons That Last Beyond Sports

One of the most valuable things Tia learned had nothing to do with softball.

It was consistency.

“Training showed me what it’s like to be consistent and stay consistent. If you stick with it, goals become easier to reach, and that reflects in school and friendships too.”

That’s exactly what we hope every athlete leaves with.

Not just stronger.

Not just faster.

But more confident.

More disciplined.

And prepared for whatever comes next.

One Decision Can Change Everything

Tia admits that joining YSP was intimidating at first.

But now?

“It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.”

We’re incredibly proud of everything she’s accomplished over the last four years and can’t wait to watch her compete at Mt. Hood Community College.

Congratulations, Tia. Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your journey.
